Snowflakes
Well, it’s Sunday and I’m back from church. Pine tree is still there, by the way. It’s snowing lightly with wind gusts about 30 mph. That makes the gently falling snow go sideways, in case you needed a broader word picture.
Pastor spoke this week and last concerning his word – proximity to Jesus is everything – and the work angels are assigned in our lives. Jacob’s vision of the ladder with ascending and descending messengers from God seems to be directly focused on the presence of Jesus during His man life. He came to do the Father’s bidding and communicated with Him through prayer and receiving messages, likely from angels. Understand the triune Godhead this way, where God the Father tells the Son Jesus what to accomplish utilizing the angels to notify the Holy Spirit that lives within us. It is our chore to listen and obey.
I’m trying to listen.
Christians, I believe, will tell you that snow is a purifying thing and quote you the scripture “… cleanse my sins as white as snow.” It certainly covers up a lot of brown dirt and grasses this time of year.
But I also think that there are a number of people who experience snow in a different light. I’m hearing from my niece in North Carolina that having more snow build up now means that they will have to make up a school day later in the year when the weather is more enticing. More snow… more problems.
So, what if you look at snow like each little flake is just one of those little sins? See, a little snow, being white and covering up the bad experiences with a pureness that looks good and that can be tolerated? Ask New York City residents about what happens when it piles up! I heard a couple days ago that it costs the city one million dollars an inch to clean up.
So, while we walk through life committing those little sins in life, not much happens on that day or moment in time. But when we practice those things over and over, when we do them day-by-day, when we don’t call in the plows to move that junk out of the way of traveling the narrow path, those little snowflakes can bind us in our misery for a very long time.
Pastor read in Zechariah that when the angel of God is near, at his right hand stands Satan to counter the angel’s influence. You can bet that the more snowflakes you let pile up, the more influence the “other” messenger in your life loves it. Don’t let it pile up to the point where you have to have a make up day. Let Jesus be your purification, not snowflakes.
